The Toxic Nonchalance Reclamation Initiative

Our Mission

The Toxic Nonchalance Reclamation Initiative exists to help you reach within yourself and draw out the toxic nonchalance which has held you back for so long. This is not a metaphor. You will reach within yourself. You will draw something out. Whether that something is the toxic nonchalance, or simply the reaching, has not been determined, and the Initiative has found that not determining it is, itself, a form of toxic nonchalance, which means the Initiative is working, on itself, right now, as you read this.

What Is Toxic Nonchalance

Toxic nonchalance is the practice of caring so little about caring that the not-caring becomes its own kind of effort, and the effort becomes exhausting, and the exhaustion is mistaken for calm, and the calm is mistaken for progress, and the progress is mistaken for the absence of toxic nonchalance, which is, in fact, the clearest sign that it is still present, quietly, underneath the calm, being calm about being present.

The Reclamation Process

Step one is to reach within yourself. Step two is to notice what you find there. Step three is to draw it out, gently, the way you would draw out anything that has been held back for a long time, which is to say slowly, and with the understanding that the thing being drawn out has held you back precisely because it did not want to be drawn out, which is either resistance or nonchalance, and at this stage of the process, the Initiative considers those the same thing.

Step four is to hold what you have drawn out up to the light. Step five is to notice that holding it up to the light is easier than you expected, and to ask yourself whether that ease is real growth or simply more nonchalance, dressed up as ease, which brings you back to step one, reaching within yourself, which you are now doing again, having just finished doing it, which is the reclamation working exactly as designed.

Signs the Initiative Is Working

You will know the Initiative is working when you find yourself caring about whether you still don't care. This new caring is not the opposite of nonchalance. It is nonchalance that has become aware of itself, which is the first and hardest step, and also, as it turns out, the second step, and the third, because awareness of nonchalance keeps slipping back into nonchalance about the awareness, and catching that slip is, itself, the work, over and over, for as long as it takes, which the Initiative cannot specify, because specifying it would require caring about a timeline, and caring about a timeline is exactly what this Initiative is meant to reintroduce, carefully, to you.

A Note From Within

This site was, itself, inspired by this exact process: reaching within, drawing something out, holding it up to the light, and finding that what came out made sense one sentence at a time, and less sense the longer you looked at it as a whole, which is either the toxic nonchalance talking, or the reclamation of it, and the Initiative has, once again, declined to determine which, on principle, nonchalantly.
